The French Decision Against Bashar al-Assad: Similarities with the Situation in Palestine

Recently, the French decision against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has sparked widespread controversy, not only in Syria and the Middle East but also in Europe. This decision, aimed at holding Assad accountable for alleged crimes committed during the Syrian civil war, has been widely rejected by the European public and sharply criticized by Western public opinion towards the French judiciary. What is noteworthy here is the striking similarity between this situation and what is happening in Palestine.

Rejection by the European Public:

Since the announcement of the decision, many European cities have witnessed protest demonstrations expressing their rejection of this decision. Many believe that this step is merely an attempt to interfere in Syria’s internal affairs and that it will not contribute to solving the crisis but may complicate it further. Protesters believe that the solution must be purely Syrian, without external interventions that increase the suffering of the Syrian people.

Criticisms of the French Judiciary:

The French judiciary has not been spared from harsh criticisms directed by Western public opinion. Some accuse the French judiciary of bias and politicization, believing that this decision lacks objectivity and justice. Critics see this decision as reflecting a political stance more than a judicial one and that it comes within the framework of Western policies towards the Middle East.

Similarities with the Situation in Palestine:

The similarity between this situation and what is happening in Palestine is clear and evident. In Palestine, the people suffer from external interventions and unjust decisions imposed on them by major powers. These decisions are often unfair and lack legitimacy, increasing the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Just as the Syrian people are subjected to injustice and external interventions, Palestinians have been suffering from the same injustice for decades. International decisions imposed on Palestine are often unjust and biased towards the stronger party, making it difficult to achieve peace and justice in the region.
